| Preventing conflicts and ensuring peace in the Great Lakes |
| Switzerland works on a number of levels to help achieve a lasting peace in the countries of the Great Lakes region. By supporting the establishment of good governance models, Switzerland aids the ongoing process of decentralization in Rwanda and Burundi. It supports many local media as to they fulfill their role of providing information to combat prejudices. Switzerland is funding several programmes to assist the return of thousands of families displaced during the conflicts of 1990-2000. Finally, it contributes to efforts of political mediation, reconciliation, strengthening of human rights and the ongoing security in the region. |
